Descendants of William HEMSLEY and Mary

James's birth certificate gives just Harrison, but most other documents record James or James H. He was a prominent member of society as described in a Obituary in the local paper.

After his first wife died, James married Elizabeth. She was born illegitimate to Priscilla HADDON, who then married James MANSFIELD and Elizabeth took his name: she is recorded as "Elizabeth Haddon Mansfield" on her marriage certificate to James TOON in 1874. She was recorded as a widow with a surname of TOONE when she married James Harrison HEMSLEY in 1876.

James and Ann's daughter Edith had an illegitimate daughter Annie who lived with James and Elizabeth after Edith married Jonathan HAYNES. Annie's existence was kept a secret from Jonathan and Edith's children until they were adults.
