The first record of Henry John is as a drummer at the Clarence Barracks, Portsea, in 1871. This was the start of a military career taking him to Akyab and Rangoon in Burma and Kamptee in India. After marrying, the family lived in Portland, Dorset, and after travelling to India and the far east, returned to Weymouth, Dorset. In 1901, Henry was at the Warley Barracks in Brentwood and died in Billericay 5 years later.
Son Harry Rossiter married Elizabeth Mary SIMPSON, whom he then divorced, and then married Mary Elizabeth EASTERBROOK who came from a strict Roman Catholic family!
