Great Lakes USA
This covers families with roots in the Great Lakes area consisting of the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
The cities of the Great Lakes states were the heart of America's industrial development and considered the home of the motor car which fuelled the development of the USA during most of the 20th century. With the decline of heavy industry and concentration of technology and finance in the East and West coasts into the 21st century, the development of this area has gone into reverse leaving a trail of closed industry earning the area the nickname "the rust belt".
