Great War 1914-1918
This is a record of those who died in military conflict in the Great War.
Britain declared war on Germany on the 4th August 1914. The 1st July 1916 was the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army, and the Battle of Jutland on the 31st May to 1st June 1916 was the largest Naval battle of the war.
Bulgaria was the first country to sign an armistice on 29th September 1918 and on 30th October the Ottoman Empire capitulated. An armistice with Germany was signed and at 11:00 on 11th November a ceasefire came in to effect. This is generally considered the end of the Great War, although a formal state of war existed until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919.
This is currently incomplete - more names will be added later.
