Easterbook families of the London area

Although the Easterbrook family name originates in Devon, there were an increasing number of Easterbrook families living in London and the surrounding area from the middle of the 19th century. The significant increase from this time is almost certainly a consequence of the railway network reaching Plymouth in 1859.

The earliest census for which a full surname index exists is 1851 and this shows less than 50 Easterbrooks living in London, and almost the same number in 1861. In the 1871 census this had increased to well over 100, accounted for mainly by migration from Devon.

The area covered by this research is that of modern day London, or approximately the area within the M25 orbital motorway. In the 19th century the county of London was very small, so most of the families listed actually lived in the surrounding counties of Middlesex, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, or Essex.

This section is split into two sections:

  1. Natives - families that have lived in the London area as far back as I can trace them.
  2. Migrants - families that have moved to London from other areas, usually Devon.
Many London families moved within the London area several times and there are no natural boundaries, so it is not possible to split this section up into pages geographically, but most families have been recorded by the areas of London in which most children were born. NOTE: I am currently replacing this London section with a South East England section. Once all families have been added to the South East section, this London section will be removed.
