DNA Project
Matt Sears at University College London is collecting DNA samples from males with Devonian Surnames and is currently looking for volunteers who have the male inherited Y chromosome from an Easterbrook of Devon. The research will provide data that will shed light on medieval migrations and population movements in the British Isles.
If you have the surname Easterbrook inherited from the male line and are willing to give a DNA sample for research purposes, please use the Researchers' page to contact Matt.
Normally the DNA samples are anonymised so your sample cannot be traced back to you. If you are willing to agree to a limited waiver of this then your sample could possibly be used to prove or disprove links between the branches of the Easterbrook families. This is completely voluntary and should only be done if you are related to a family on this site and are happy for your DNA sample to be linked to you. DNA Y-chromosome provides a biological link through the male line, whereas most of the research on this site covers the documented relationships: Comparison of the two may indicate that the biological and documented male lines are not the same! If you are not happy with this, please still consider an anonymous DNA sample for Matt's project.
